Math:
We will be focusing on the Buckle Down Math AIMS books. Students work in their books during class, but will need to take the book home if they do not finish. Lesson 3 was due last Wednesday. Lesson 4 is due this Wednesday.

The math grade is split into 6 categories (IXL weekly homework by time spent; IXL weekly homework by percentage of required lessons mastered; Oswego timed math facts tests; skill level in-class tests; Buckle Down workbook; and participation). Homework is 30%, Tests are 40%, and Class Work is 30%.

For the IXL requirements our week will run from Monday to Sunday. Students will be required to work on IXL in their grade level for a minimum of 2 hours each week. Additional time spent will earn bonus points. Instead of the 8 lessons per week, students should work to master (with a score of 90 or higher) the number of skills indicated for each week. The number tells how many total IXL lessons should be mastered for the year so far. The grade will be a percentage of lessons mastered to total lessons due. (Note: they will not need to complete the IXL record forms any more.)

We will continue to work on the speed & accuracy of the basic math facts. Students need to be able to answer 100 basic math facts questions in 5 minutes. We are using the Oswego math games website for their sprints. They need to master multiplication and division.  Please have them practice at home: http://www.oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/mathmagician/maths1.html Here are some other practice sites as well: www.wildmath.com/   http://multiplication.com/interactive_games.htm www.bigbrainz.com/   http://www.algebra.com/tutors/lessons-by-tutor.mpl?tutor=nutshellmath

 IXL weekly homework requirements:
- Students will be required to spend a minimum of 2 hours working on IXL a week
- They can choose which lessons they feel confident to complete each week, instead of having specific lessons assigned.
- For each lesson they must either earn a score of 90 or above
- They must have all grade level lessons completed by the end of the school year.
- The assignment week will go from Monday to the following Sunday.
